Hiking the Korouoma Canyon in winter is definitely a must-do when you visit Rovaniemi! No matter how often you go, it’s never the same!
Another trip to Korouoma Canyon – it was my third one as an intern at Wild About Lapland. But I could do it every day because it’s never the same. The weather is different and with it the landscape and the form of the frozen waterfalls varies as well.
As soon as we left Rovaniemi I knew that this time would be different because of the weather. Temperatures were above zero, then cold again in order to return to warmer weather again and so on.
So when we arrived at Korouoma Canyon, I was really excited to see the waterfalls. Of course we had to walk a little bit first. But that isn’t boring. The snow covered trees and frozen streams are turning the forest into a truly magical winter wonderland. If you stop for a moment and just stand there, enjoying the silence… This is a moment you’ll never forget.

Because I now know the route, I knew that we will soon see the first waterfall of Korouoma Canyon. So I was really excited to get there. And the waterfalls were indeed breathtaking. Bigger then last time and showing intense blue-greenish or yellow-brownish colors. Just amazing!
This time, there were more ice climbers that we could watch climbing these magnificent frozen waterfalls. I always admire them and can’t get enough of watching them climb.

Hiking the Korouoma Canyon was again an amazing experience that I could do every day and not get bored.
