Enjoy the most breathtaking frozen waterfalls in Finland!

Korouoma Canyon Frozen Waterfalls

Korouoma is a 30-kilometre long, and up to 130-meter deep canyon located 110 kilometres south-east from Rovaniemi. It offers breathtaking scenery all year, with cliffs, rapids and waterfalls. This natural reserve is also home to rare species and a great nature area for hikers. In the wintertime, the waterfalls turn into fantastic ice formations, well known for ice-climbing and a great attraction for tourists coming from all over the world.

Your guide drives you to Korouoma Canyon for a nice hike in the national park, where you have the chance to enjoy the incredible peacefulness of the area. You have a chance to observe some of the most spectacular frozen waterfalls in Europe, whilst enjoying the beauty of the snowy nature. As you hike through the canyon, your guide teaches you about the local nature and your surroundings. With a bit of luck, you may even spot tracks made by wolves, lynx, wolverines, moose, reindeer, weasels or Arctic hares.

Enjoy a personal experience in Korouoma Natural Reserve

Refreshments and a typical Finnish campfire snack will be served around the open fire to keep you warm. This is a great opportunity for your guide to show you how to build a fire using traditional methods. No need for matches or a lighter, your guide will use flint & steel and natural materials you can find in the nature that surrounds you (we can do this in conditions as cold as -30°C).

Lunchtime is also a great moment for your guide to share their passion and knowledge and answer all your questions about nature, Lapland and life in the Arctic.

The excursion lasts around 7 hours, including transportation, hiking (approximately 5 kilometers in total) and lunchtime around the fire. You will be back in Rovaniemi between 16:00 – 17:00.

In all our activities, our groups are limited to 8 people maximum. It is very important for us to provide you with the best experience possible, and avoid mass tourism. This way, your guide will know you better and will be able to address all your needs and answer your questions. As we usually say – the smaller the group, the bigger the experience!

Can I pay upon arrival? Can I pay by cash?

Bookings are confirmed only upon payment receipt. If you are then willing to pay by cash/upon arrival, we cannot guarantee that we will still have availability at that moment. We always recommend booking online and in advance to reserve your seats, especially during high and peak seasons (December – March). If you can only pay by cash, please contact us and we can discuss together the best options for you.

Where is the meeting point if I am staying in Rovaniemi city centre?

In line with our commitment to sustainable travel (Sustainable Travel Finland), we no longer offer pick-ups from city centre hotels to reduce emissions. If you are staying in the centre, the tour will start from our office at Rovakatu 24.

Will food and drinks be provided during the tour?

Yes. During the hike, you will enjoy traditional Finnish campfire snacks and hot drinks. Your guide will also show you how to build a fire using traditional methods—using flint and steel instead of matches—even in temperatures as low as -30°C!

If you have selected one adult only, the tour may not have the minimum of 2 adult participants yet and is therefore not bookable for one adult. To make sure that this is a problem of availability, we suggest that you try to book on a different date/time.

If the problem persists, then there may be a technical issue (sometimes caused by the cookie cache). We suggest that you try to book the tour by using a different browser (Google Chrome, Safari, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer or others).

If you still experience an issue, please contact us by e-mail (if possible, with a screenshot of the issue). Don’t worry – we will find an easy alternative to book your tour!

Korouoma is home to many wild animals. With a bit of luck, you may spot tracks or catch a glimpse of wolves, lynx, wolverines, moose, reindeer, or Arctic hares.

To ensure a personal experience and avoid mass tourism, we limit our groups to a maximum of 8 people. This allows us to provide better service while minimizing our impact on the environment.
