Hello! This is Kaitlin & Carla! We are 2 Brits working as Front Desk at Wild About Lapland. How can you tell we are British? We always use one too many exclamation marks!
Get to know about our life in Rovaniemi in this exclusive interview, exploring the day in the life of a front desk worker at Wild About Lapland. Plus, we will leave our top tips for your trip to Rovaniemi (that is, if you can find them hidden amongst our excessive exclamation marks).
K: So Carla, can you explain a morning shift at Wild About Lapland? What is your favourite part?
C: Well I come to the office in the morning, I prepare the tea and coffee whilst my colleagues check the bookings for the day ahead. I prepare for the day ahead by seducing the boots (sticking the insoles back into them) and cleaning the toilet, it really compliments my breakfast! Then I grab a cup of coffee, two sugars of course, absolutely no milk. Once the caffeine hits, I’m ready to welcome all of our guests for the morning departures.
C: So Kaitlin then, considering I never see you on the morning shift, what is your favourite part of the evening shift?
K: It’s because fate keeps us apart Carla. The universe is against us, we are just too powerful together! But, when I arrive for the afternoon shift, I cry tears of joy because we have 1 hour together! Although, once again we are kept apart as I must run to the shops to buy more sausages, bread, handsoap and cookies. Sometimes it is different and I get to buy more coca cola for us to enjoy. When I return, I will spend some time talking with you (duh!) whilst you tell me the events of the morning shift. But then you must sadly leave and I instead create itineraries for our guests, manage our bookings and prepare for the evening shift. My favourite part is speaking with our guests, especially when they are testing my language skills (lo siento if I tried to communicate with you in Spanish!).

C: Ok ok. Do you have any funny stories from your time at the front desk?
K: Hmmm, I think I can share with you a few…
C: Just one is enough.
K: Ok ok, well, then I would perhaps say the time that someone accidentally stole our office phone. Luckily they returned it! Although, it does make me laugh when we wish a guest a nice holiday, and they respond “you too!”. Oh, or that time.. Wait, you said one. Okay, my turn to ask you something then.
K: Something juicy… would you ever be a guide?
C: Well, in my past life I was a snowmobile guide for 5 years. However, now I have become quite accustomed to the indoors. I’m like my cat, one day he decided to retire and never leave the house again. Yes, I am the office house cat, I like watching people from the window and hissing if the guides come too close.
C: Well, I would throw the question back to you Kaitlin…
K: Ummm, well, I also enjoy the warmth of indoors and drinking my tea. I like to talk, be outdoors and exercise, but perhaps not all at the same time. Who would make the TikToks if I was a guide? But hey, it’s my turn to ask you!
K: What are your top tips for tourists coming to Rovaniemi?
C: I would say, research your tours, book way in advance to secure the best tours (wink wink, I heard Wild About Lapland is a good company). If you don’t plan to use your winter clothing after your holiday here, then you should rent the clothing to save you money, weight in your suitcase and also waste. But… if you want to give your Canada Goose jacket to me I wouldn’t say no!
K: Alrighty, good advice! I guess that now is a good time to say that we include winter overalls and boots in our tours… Ok. Final question, now this one is tricky but I think you can handle it. Who is your favourite front desk co-worker?
C: Kaitlin! You are my favourite British front desk co-worker. Despite how much Luka pretends to be a Brit with his TikTok references.
K: Is this an interview or a love letter? You’re so kind! Wait a minute, I am the only other British front desk worker…
