We started from Rovaniemi and drove outside of town where you can find good places to watch the Northern Lights. Very soon, we put on the skis and started our Ski Trekking adventure right away.
We skied through the beautiful winter forest, snowflakes falling slowly from the sky and caught by our headlights. It is truly amazing that you can feel so far away from civilization but are only a few minutes away from the city.
Ski Trekking is in fact not really difficult. Even if you haven’t done it before it is no problem. Actually, it is a lot of fun, for both our guests and us. And of course, this tour is not only about ski trekking. We stopped along the way multiple times to explain our guests the nature and surroundings.
After an intense but fun adventure we arrived at the frozen lake. This is our location for viewing Northern Lights. While waiting we made a fire by the hut – of course the traditional way without matches. And we all really enjoyed the fire with our hot drinks and a typical finish.
This would be the time where we would keep an eye on the sky to spot the Northern Lights. Sadly, the sky wasn’t clear anywhere in Lapland. But we had a nice talk and storytelling time around the fire anyways. Of course we explained the phenomenon to our guests. And it was still snowing which is an awesome weather for sitting around a warm fire.
From there it was just a short time back to our starting point. Normally, we would ski over the frozen lake but as the weather was pretty warm for this time of the year, we decided to go back through the forest which is a nice trail as well.
All in all it was a great adventure, despite the fact that we didn’t see the Northern Lights this time.
